JOE BONAMASSA ‘Had To Cry Today’ Provogue PRD71462 (2004)

Blues guitarist Bonamassa has already been making a name for himself, and this collection of original and standards shows why. With elements of modern rock and funk, opener “Never Make Your Move Too Soon” is a solid number while “Travellin’ South” is a real highlight, featuring some slide and uptempo neat pickin’.

Although a trio (with bassist Eric Czar and drummer Kenny Kramme) the band are joined by organist Benny Harrison and harmonica player John Paris. A full, energetic and enjoyable sound.

'Reconsider Baby' shows an element of Gary Moore too. Not as strong or overall outstanding. But still pretty damn fine. Some tracks are a little weak but the rockabilly blues of “Revenge Of The 10 Gallon Hat” does add a sparkle.
