VARIOUS Numbers From The Beast An All Star Salute To Iron Maiden
Restless (55:33) (2005)

With all things Maiden popular at the moment (they can’t fart, or get pelted with eggs without it charting or making the news), they deservedly get yet another tribute set.

An all star cast mix well with the usual second division names to make an interesting set. Robin McCauley and Michael Schenker do a fine job on Run To The Hills, and Dee Snider sounds brilliant on Wasted Years.

Ripper Owens reaches the highnotes on Flight Of Icarus, and while Motorhead’s Mickey Dee appears on Dear Of The Dark, Lemmy and Phil Campbell front up The Trooper. Class indeed.

The rest of the set is similarly enjoyable, with musicians diverse enough to make the arrangements varied. With Joe Lynn Turner, Bob and Bruce Kulick and members of Rainbow, Dio, Foreigner, AC/DC, Anthrax, Testement etc etc, it’s a good mixture. Even a Derek Riggs cover adds authenticity, as does original Maiden singer Paul Di’Anno, who’s appeared on most Maiden tributes.

If taken light heartedly, it’s a lot of fun, and thoroughly enjoyable. Strangely no Ozzy though!!
