HELLHOUND Tokyo Flying V Massacre Majestic Rock MAJCD088 (2006)

Slightly clichéd Japanese metal, with a strong Judas Priest leaning (thing Painkiller screams, studded leather et al). The title track also hints, in a very heavy way, to Saxon with UFO or Scorpions vocals. So a modern take beefed up take on some very trad and very classic rock.

With a singer/guitarist called Crossfire, and a lead guitarist called Lucifer’s Heritage, you are going to look at this with a wry smile (Sword Master and Dragon Blaster complete the band).

The guitars work well, the music is solid and in places excellent. Good fair to just rock out to. At times catchy, it’s not a bad album. But the originals (and best) are still going.

***½
