VARIOUS 'Headbanger's Bible Warner Music (2005)

A triple CD of rock anthems mate - not ‘arf! I would imagine aimed at the younger rock fans enticed into the wonderful world of rock via the Darkness and their offspring Hurricane Party, Tokyo Dragons et al.

A damn fine idea and you’ve got the usual suspects like Boston (how many compilations has ‘More Than A Feeling’ appeared on?), Sabbath, Queen, Free, Steppenwolf and UFO. Plus some more unusual choices like Grand Funk Railroad’s ‘The Locomotion’ and ‘Smokin’ In The Boys Room ‘ - not the awful Motley Crue cover but the original by Brownsville Station. The Darkness are here along with the Wildhearts, to add some tunes actually recorded in the past fifteen years.

Seasoned rock fans will doubtless have all the songs on here but it’s aimed at the new breed of rock fans and as an introduction it’s a damn fine one. Just wish they had a few more newer mainstream rock bands mixed in like Nickelback, Thunder or Creed.

***** Out of this world | **** Pretty damn fine |
*** OK, approach with caution unless you are a fan |
