GUY PRATT
My Bass & Other Animals, King's Head Theatre, Islington 13 November 2006

Who you may ask? Well study your album credits closely and Guy Pratt has played bass on albums and gigs by everyone from the rock giants of Pink Floyd, Roxy Music, David Gilmour, Coverdale & Page through to err Michael Jackson and Madonna (he started as a member of 80's Aussie rockers Icehouse).

In this one man stand up show he goes through his musical career with musical interludes on bass and guitar.

It is a very funny show with highlights for me including his spot on impersonation of David Coverdale - he gets Coverdale's old fashioned accent meets gentleman playboy down to a tee. He pokes fun at fellow bass players as well with Mark King of Level 42 coming under justifiable ridicule. Better still he exposes the Duran Duran bass lines - they are nearly all the same! (Spandau Ballet's Gary Kemp was in the audience last night and he was thoroughly enjoying the show).

Guy Pratt is a very talented bass player, as can be seen and heard with his various musical interludes and you can see why he is held in such high esteem by fellow musicians.

I won't go into all the stories as that will spoil the show but suffice to say he has great takes and stories on David Crosby, Michael Jackson, Madonna, David Bowie and lots more Floyd/Gilmour anecdotes.

To be honest I could listen to this show all night such is his easy style with the audience and the sheer variety of musicians he has worked with. A must see for any fans of music as it has wide appeal and is a great insight to the backstage life of the music world.

You can see Guy Pratt at the King's Head theatre on the 20th, 26th & 27th November and his book of the same name as the show is published in May next year. Music-wise he is currently involved in the recording of Roxy Music's new album which should get released sometime next year.
