VARIOUS Just Like Paradise- A Millennium Tribute to Diamond Dave Lee Roth
Mascot Records (Cat No M 71862)

Generally speaking you can't go to far wrong with a tribute album- you know what the songs are going to sound like and, if you are buying a tribute to your favourite artist, you probably already own the original records.

That said there has to be something a bit out of the ordinary to make you want to listen and on this album the songs are generally covered note for note.

Don't get me wrong there is some great guitar work on the CD, George Lynch on 'Shy Boy', Corey Craven on 'Shy Boy' and Blues Saraceno on 'Goin' Crazy'.

Enuff Znuffs' 'Yankee Rose' works because it doesn't sound anything like them and it makes you listen to the way they have worked the song.

The outstanding track for me, however, is American Dog's rendition of 'Take your Whisky Home'.

All in all though, one listen to this collection of covers made me dig out the originals and open a cold beer.
