DANNY DANZI ‘Danziland ’
(MTM Music MTm068194) (2004)

Follow-up to Danny Danzi’s 1999 debut album with Danzi on vocals/guitars, Andy Slostad (guitars), Wayne Davis (bass), Timmy Lloyd (drums) and Phil Buckleman (keyboards). After a short special effects intro it’s into pedal-to-the-metal on ‘Danziland’. Nice chunky riffing and choral effect backing vocals, party time rock a la Y& T/Kiss. The guitars are high in the mix and Danzi shows he is no slouch when it comes to soloing. Tune of the album has to be ‘Eternity’, where it sounds like early Survivor - nice! In fact as a vocal comparison ex-Survivor vocalist Dave Bickler is perhaps the nearest to Danzi.

‘Let It Go’ has the classic touches - piano/vocal intro before launching into a catchy chorus and again it reminds of classic Survivor. ‘Time Passes By’ is a slow burner featuring some classy soloing again from Danzi. The European release gets the bonus track, ‘What About Us’, a gentle acoustic based number and worth the addition to the album.

Nice package all round with good production (nice touch in segueing the tracks together), quality cover artwork and of course some killer tunes. Deserves a wide audience although sadly a small but dedicated fan base only ever knows about melodic rock gems like this album. Spread the word and welcome to Danziland!
