CLOVEN HOOF Eye Of The Sun Escape Music ESM133 (2006)

West Midlands NWoBHM leftovers Cloven Hoof return with a new and rather good new album of power metal. Very heavy power metal, with opener 'Inquisitor' nodding at Ripper era Priest.

The title track adds the speed metal element and a nod at thrash, while a beefed up Saxon can be heard in 'Eye Of The Zombie'.

Not the most classic metal ever but well worth checking out, and as good as anything the Hoof have produced, which will please fans. And production comes from Tom Galley (Phenomena, and brother of Whitesnake/Trapeze guitarist Mel).

***½
