CHRIS FIELD ‘Powis Square’ FOD CD1 (2004)

Chris is a young guitarist and singer I had the pleasure of seeing live recently, and this debut CD features guitarist Robbie Blunt of the Robert Plant band.

The music is typically light rock, but without the commercial or AOR edge, it’s not over produced, and there’s some catchy tunes in there too.

Blunt produces some neat slide guitar, and the horns, strings and harmonica provide some nice touches too.

There’s some blues leanings in places, and there’s not one bad tune on the 12 track set. Backing vocalist Sam Brown is a name some might recognise, and when the horns and guitar let loose, you think there’s some real potential here. But for these song arrangements, which are quite solid, the production doesn’t always back it up.

With a bit more of a solid sound and direction, Field could go a long way.
