Trillium is Amanda Somerville’s solo delving into the world of power metal.  Her previous album, “Windows”, had a far more pop/rock flavour to it but, as she’s been involved with projects like Aina and Avantasia, it seems to be a natural progression to produce something in this genre.

Ms Somerville hauls in the services of Sasha Paeth (guitars and producer) and Jorn Lande (guest vocals) and the result is a well-polished, dramatic power metal album with more gentle areas that what is often released in this genre these days.  The gentle touch of Somerville is felt throughout, although there is a menacing undertone, courtesy of Paeth’s guitars, throughout.

Due to the dramatic feel of the album it is not the easiest listen, but Somerville’s superb voice and the performance of the musicians involved make it a worthwhile experience.
