The 3rd album from New York’s D Drive, “3D” is released in an interesting 3D cover- which has actually been done quite well. Now that is out of the way, let’s concentrate on the album itself, 11 tracks of solid melodic rock- catchy, sing along choruses, hooks a plenty and some great musicianship make this one of the best records I have heard in the last few months.

There is not a bad track amongst the 11 on offer here and you will be able to pick out some of the bands influences on the first listen. “Kiss The Ground” has the feel of classic Cheap Trick, “Chains On You” has a touch of Aerosmith whilst “Always Done What I Want” is reminiscent of some of John Lennon’s solo work.  Slower tracks like “Never Had a Chance” and “Last To Fall” fit in perfectly with the more up tempo songs and they complement each other nicely.

Vocalist Phil Naro has an ability to mix his influences with a modern sound, which sits well with the guitar playing of Don Mancuso and John Naro. Other highlights on “3D” include opening track “Next Train”, “Dig Down” featuring the bass playing of Mr Big’s Billy Sheehan, “Down Deep” and “Welcome To My World”.

D Drive are a band well worth checking out and they have been strangely overlooked by the masses.
