Canadian singer songwriter performs live on Sunday 5 April

Following the trend for home to home entertainment during the coronavirus crisis, singer songwriter Josh Taerk will perform a set exclusively for Get Ready to ROCK!

The gig will be available via our Facebook page on Sunday 5 April from 21:00 GMT.

Max Weinberg (Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band) has called Josh, "the most exciting new talent I have come across in years."

Josh's current album 'Beautiful Tragedy' - and the follow up EP 'Stages' - was featured extensively on UK and US radio.

Get Ready to ROCK! Reviews Editor Jason Ritchie wrote: "Josh Taerk successfully melds a memorable melody for those who love a great hook, along with thought provoking lyrics for those who like a little substance to their musical listening."

Get Ready to ROCK! Radio cranks up listener participation

You say it.  We'll play it.  You host it.  We'll post it.

Get Ready to ROCK! Radio is encouraging listeners (and readers) to submit their favourite artist/track requests during the current crisis.

The radio station is also inviting listeners to supply their own show or playlist.  Announcements can be dialled in via mobile phone or landline "live" on air or pre-recorded.

2020 Vision
Archive content revitalised
During the coronavirus pandemic and with the absence of live music, we'll be giving greater prominence to selected archive features, whilst creating new categories.

From 2002, in our first decade, the website amassed a wide range of material - in addition to our staple album and gig reviews - before migrating to the present format by 2012.

Amongst those interviewed during this period were the late Christopher Lee, Keith Emerson, Greg Lake and many others.

Says Reviews Editor Jason Ritchie: "We have an excellent archive of interviews, sadly some with artists no longer with us.  The features give an insight to an artist's music at a moment in time, in that respect they provide a unique snapshot.  We'll be re-purposing and updating some of these as part of this project."

"Where possible we will also use material from our radio archive which became more significant for interviews from 2008 onwards."

Among the features just published, Joe Geesin on what the band Nazareth means to him and David Randall recounts Magnum's progress from the late-1970s.

Graham Gouldman
Graham Gouldman: Modesty Forbids
The 10cc-and-beyond tunesmith chats to Get Ready to ROCK! Radio about his new album

Graham Gouldman released his first solo album in eight years in March, 'Modesty Forbids'.  This was to have been followed by a UK tour.  Dates have now been rearranged to September to be followed by a 10cc tour.

Graham chatted to Get Ready to ROCK! Radio about the album and a special goes out in this week's Assume The Position (Sunday 5 April, 22:00 GMT).

As he told GRTR!'s David Randall "At the moment we have to look after each other and ourselves and get towards the day when things will be eased and we can start making music again."

Albums of the month (January - March 2020)

BLIND EGO - Preaching To The Choir

BLIND EGO Preaching To The Choir (Gentle Art Of Music)

As with 2016’s ’Liquid’ album, it’s as if he’s slipped the leash of  RPWL’s progressive rock constraints, turned the volume up to eleven and decided to blow us all into next week.

**** (Alan Jones)

Zoe Schwarz Blue commotion - Chameleon

ZOE SCHWARZ BLUE COMMOTION Chameleon (33 Records)

‘Chameleon’ is a vibrant album. It bristles with energy, sparkling musicianship, real artistic endeavour and proves that blues can still be an innovative musical force.

****½ (Pete Feenstra)

SON OF MAN State Of Dystopia (Esoteric Records)

There can be few contemporary rock bands who effortlessly switch from riff driven rock to AOR and then to the Badfinger style pop-rock of ‘Bring Out The Best In Me’, but that’s the measure of an impressive album that musically repudiates every aspect of its own title, on a splendid effort.

****  (Pete Feenstra)

>> Pete Feenstra chats to George Jones from Son of Man on Get Ready to ROCK! Radio, Sunday 5 April, 20:00 BST (GMT + 1).

BLACK SWAN - Shake The World

BLACK SWAN Shake The World (Frontiers)

All of these guys can nail down a sound or a musical concept with clarity, vision and style. And with Robin McAuley they have one of rock’s premier vocalists and, clearly, he’s still got it.

****1/2 (Brian McGowan)

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH F8 (Better Noise Records)

…the guys are at the top of their game and have released a record which reflects the new found energy within the FFDP camp.

***** (Dave Wilson)

SNAKE OIL & HARMONY - Hurricane Riders

SNAKE OIL & HARMONY Hurricane Riders (Zero Entertainment)

Really hope they decide to do another album together as they work so well together. An album to put on, kick back and enjoy as the wonderful music washes over you.

****1/2 (Jason Ritchie)
