Only spoiled by Liza Manelli & Liz Taylor! After that, Pink Floyd at Knebworth and Cinderella/Slaughter tour back inn 1990. |

Posted - 03 Oct 2005 : 17:35:48 Who was on that bill? My first festival was the fiollowing year's MOR seeing ZZ Top & Marillion and Bon Jovi's UK debut plus a young looking Metallica. Magnum were great - first time I'd heard anything by them & I've been a fan ever since. As for Ratt...send in the rat killers

Posted - 21 Mar 2003 : 13:47:50 Ron Here. for me, the best gig ever was the RUSH performance in the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: november 23, 2003 Great songs a bit more than 20. included 2112, working man, tom sawyer, the spirit of radio, thr rhythm method. great gig. can't wait to buy the dvd, any news on when it comes out?
... "I learned to lay my fingers across the wires, and to turn the keys to make them sound differently. As I struck the wires with my other hand, I produced my first harmonious sounds, and soon my own music! How different it could be from the music of the Temples! I can't wait to tell the priests about it! ..." |

Posted - 24 Oct 2002 : 09:20:27 ...I saw Cliff Richard at Knebworth (Pink Floyd headlined) and he was very good (nurse - the screens!). Very rocked up and no ballads, plus he had Keith Murrall on b.vox (he of Airace/Mama's Boys 'fame'). Perhaps that guitarist was Rick Nielsen!

Posted - 24 Oct 2002 : 09:08:52 My favourite gigs are:
Whitesnake: Brighton Centre March 84 (Classic lineup classic gig)
Dio: Portsmouth Guildhall Sept 84 (Met all the band backstage after for chat and autographs!)
Monster of Rock 84: (AC/DC, Van Halen etc. Best lineup ever!!)
Kiss: Wembly Arena 1996 (Make up reunion tour)
Kiss: Brighton Centre Sept 84 (not just for Kiss but an up and coming support act called Bon Jovi!! Still the best support band I have seen!)
Ozzy: Town and Country Club July 1988 (Pre release tour of No Rest for the wicked album. I almost got killed in a front stage crush but hey thats rock and roll for you!)
Cliff Richard: Brighton Centre 1988 (Yes I know he's not exactly rock but let me explain. I was press ganged into driving my ma, pa and girlfriend to go and see him. Yours truly wasnt exactly pleased! The lights go down and then this guy in a baseball cap (who could have been Rik Nielsen's double!) appears at the top of the steps on stage and launches into this loud and may I say excellent guitar solo!!
I turn to my dad who has his hands over his ears! Good start!
Old Cliff obviously must have been in devil rock mode because for the next two hours he and his band played some pretty rocked up versions of his classics!!! The odd ballad was thrown in but I can live with that.
I kid you not his band would have put any AOR band to shame!!
Thats my story and I m sticking to it!!

Posted - 11 Oct 2002 : 12:23:41 ...would have loved to have seen Queen live! But the best gigs I have been to are the Monsters of Rock - the Iron Maiden ('88?) and Bon Jovi ('87?) headliners. Sorry - me old memory isn on its way out... Also loved Magnum live (off to see them in Dec for the first time in over 12 years!), Thunder and Meatloaf a few years back at Wembley Arena was great entertainment. |

Posted - 10 Oct 2002 : 16:38:31 I'm afraid I wasn't able to go to Freddie's tribute gig. The best gig I ever went to was Yes at the Manchester Apollo in December 2001. This show contained three 20 minute epics ("Close To The Edge", "The Gates Of Delirium" and "Ritual"), which were all brilliant. Other favourite gigs were: The Musical Box (Genesis tribute band) in Manchester, May 2002; Marillion in St Helens, July '86; Jethro Tull in Bristol, November '99; Barclay James Harvest in Manchester, March 2001; Rush in Birmingham, April '88; and Saga in Lichtenfels, Germany in June '92.
