Ten Questions with...

BOB WELCH

Guitarist Bob Welch was a member of the Fleetwood Mac, he left to go solo, forming the band Paris along the way.
1. What are you currently up to?

I just completed a new CD that's coming out on July 8th on One Way Records called "Bob Welch ; His Fleetwood Mac Years and Beyond". The CD is 14 of my recreations of Fleetwood Mac songs and solo album songs. I don't think anybody's ever done anything like this before; I'm pretty excited ..

2. What has been the highlight(s) and lowpoints(s) of your career to date?

There haven't been any low points , only "learning experiences" !I guess the lawsuit between Fleetwood Mac and their former manager was a low point...

3. How did you first get into the music business? Who have been your main influences on your career to date?

I joined a University of Oregon college band called "Ivory Hudson and the Harlequins" when I was 19. My influences...the Beatles, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Ray Charles, Duke Ellington. .

4. How did you get to join Fleetwood Mac? Which albums/songs are you most proud of from that period and why?

A former girlfriend - Judy Wong - introduced me to Mick Fleetwood. "Mystery To Me" is probably the overall standout from my era with the Mac.

5. If you had stayed with the band do you think they would have kept to a more blues-rock base than the AOR direction they took on with Rumours?

I don't know...I was a "harmony" freak just like Stevie and Lindsey were ...

6. What did you do immediately after leaving Fleetwood Mac? What has been the highlight of the years since leaving Fleetwood Mac?

I put together my band "Paris" with Glenn Cornick. The highlight was maybe Californian Jam 2 playing in front of 300,000 people..

7. Would you consider joining a band again or are you happy to carry on as a solo artist? Anyone you would like to work with in the future?

As long as it's for a relatively short period, I'd love to play with a band.

8. Any bands/artists you?d like to work with either as a writer and/or producer?

I like Alanis Morrisette, Fiona Apple, Alicia Keys...geez...they're all women !

9. What do you do in your spare time outside of music?

I try to keep our garden from turning into a jungle... I also read a lot...

10. Message for your fans...

Check out my new CD in July...you may find it interesting ! And thanks for your support all these years !
